KIRKBY MALZEARD RES 2 BOROUGHBRIDGE A 2
(AET) KM WON 4-1 ON PENALTIES
Bridge were within four minutes of causing an Alverton Trophy upset as they took top of the table Kirkby to the wire only to fail in the penalty shoot out. Sam Allan, via a Kirkby leg, gave Bridge a ten minute lead only for the home side to equalize within two minutes as Wayne Fisher punched a corner into his own net. The rest of the game was pretty much level pegging as both sides sought the winner with the pick an exceptional second half save from Charlie Scatchard denying a superbly struck Chris Chapman free kick. Chapman then gave his side the upper hand in extra time with a goal ten minutes from the end but Bridge lacked the experience and savoir faire to see the game out and a determined home side grabbed the equalizer through Shane Hayden with four minutes to go. The penalty shoot out proved a disaster for Bridge with only Sam Allan hitting the target to leave Kirkby 4-1 winners and an away trip to Wetherby Athletic in the semi final.
