17 May - Closing Day: Season Ends With Loss

'Bridge Sunday closed out the Boroughbridge AFC season last night at Aldborough Road with a three goal to one loss to Sherwood. Just as with Monday's Reserve team fixture the match was a typical end of season encounter, with players picking numbers out of a hat to determine their position and Steve Paffett the unlucky player who picked the number one. The first half ended goalless but second half goal from Matt Thompson, Kieran Glennon and usual 'keeper Matt Butler accelerated Sherwood into a three nil lead before Kyle Wall hit home a late consolation goal for 'Bridge.

14 May - Result: Emphatic End To Season

'Bridge Reserves rounded out their season in emphatic fashion earlier this evening on the road with a ten goal to one victory against an under-strength Carlton side. Jake Fletcher open the scoring in the eighth minute before Mark Baranovsky added a second five minutes later. Paul Scaife was next in on the goal action on 20 minute before Jimmy Binks also got in on the act in the 25th minute. Baranovsky headed home his second with 35 minutes on the clock and completed his hat-trick with a well hit shot in the following minute. As 'Bridge began to drop the tempo the goals began to dry up, but Scaife ensured a seven nil half time lead a minute before the break. Carlton started the second half with fresh enthusiasm, but Phil Wix added an eighth for 'Bridge in the 52nd minute. Carlton had their first real opportunity of the evening soon afterwards, but having slotted past Liam Corbett saw their effort curl onto the post. Jimmy Binks completed his brace on 70 minutes and Carlton would get their goal on 79 minutes, before Scaife completed the rout, and his hat-trick, on 85 minutes when he calmly converted from the spot after a soft foul on Baranovsky by the home defence. Tony Coles's men finish the season fourth from bottom and six points clear of the drop zone, having picked up ten points from their last four matches. 'Bridge Sunday will close out 2011/12 on Wednesday evening when they host Sherwood at Aldborough Road.

13 May - Lucky Seven: Slonka Wins Fourth Title

Boroughbridge AFCAs the Barclays Premier League drew to a dramatic conclusion earlier today, so did this season's Lucky Seven score predictor competition on our UreView messageboard. League leader, and defending champion, Slonka came into the final week's competition with a healthy but not unassailable lead over long term challenger riverside, but demonstrated just why he has won this crown four years out of five by winning the week's competition and thus ending any hopes riverside may have had of snatching the title away. Further down the table, bluethru cemented a third place league finish with second on the week, and a1blue gained just enough points on the final week to push blue is the colour down into fifth position. Statto also scored enough points to advance his finishing position to sixth. The final table can be found to the right. Our congratulations to Slonka on successfully defending his crown and our thanks to all those who have taken part in Lucky Seven this season.

Lucky Seven will recommence at the beginning of next season, with the defending champion in the hotseat for the picks in the first week of the new Barclays Premier League season. If you just can't wait until then, however, then why not try our Lucky Seven Special for the Euro 2012 tournament. More details can be found by clicking here...
12 May - Race For Survival: Mission Complete

'Bridge Reserves came into today's match against newly crowned County Challenge Trophy winners Wetherby Athletic Reserves knowing that a win would assure then of Alliance Division One football next season. With this knowledge it would have been reasonable to expect a nervy and tentative performance from the home side, but in the end they produced everything but with both teams providing an enthralling encounter which swung both ways throughout the afternoon. Phil Wix set 'Bridge on their way and settled any early nerves in the 26th minute when he bundled home a well struck Dan Clayton corner. Wetherby were level just eight minutes later but Tendai Machama quickly restored the lead, which 'Bridge would hold until half time. The visitors started strongly in the second half and restored parity on 57 minutes. It would have been easy for 'Bridge to lose their resolve at this point, but they kept working together and the introduction of Jamie Smith on the hour mark proved to be inspirational when he hit home a Machama cross with his very first touch. Once again Tony Coles's side lost their lead four minutes later but they retook it for good with eleven minutes left on the clock as Paul Scaife slotted home. As the final whistle rang around Aldborough Road, Coles and his team celebrated, safe in the knowledge that they had successfully avoided relegation.

'Bridge Sunday, meanwhile, lost by four goals to nil on the road at Scholes yesterday evening.

'Bridge Sunday came from behind to earn a point earlier today on the road at The Ship and ease their bottom of the table worries. 5 May - Race For Survival: 'Bridge Hold Champs

'Bridge Reserves climbed out of the Alliance Division One relegtion zone on goal difference earlier today following a one all draw with division champions Beeston St. Anthony's Reserves. 'Bridge took the lead in the ninth minute when Paul Scaife hit home from just inside the area, and held their lead until half time. Beeston caught 'Bridge on the break nine minutes after the match resumed following half time and made no mistake in converting their one-on-one with Liam Corbett, who played superbly throughout once again. No more real chances came the way of either side, with the hosts perhaps edging the possession, and as the final whistle sounded 'Bridge celebrated gaining a vital point in their relegation battle which, coupled with losses today for Brighouse Old Boys Reserves and Robin Hood Athletic Reserves, lifts them out of the drop zone on goal difference with a game in hand over their two rivals. Today's match was soured somewhat, however, by several robust tackles. Ben Clayton was lucky to escape injury following a tackle (below, left) which went unpunished by the referee, and Tony Coles was forced to use all three of his substitutes to relieve players injuryed following hard tackles, with Phil Wix withdrawing in the second half after picking up a first half knock and both Josh Philpott and Stevie Coles limping off the field following tackles.
